There is a quote that I find so profound & it says: “Rest is equally as important as working hard” - a simple but profound truth. Over the years, especially as my schedule, workload and demands have intensified - I have had to unlearn the fact that I am not slowing down or hindering myself whenever I decide to pause everything, take time out for myself & rest. This can sometimes be the unconscious thought process that takes place in the minds of successful, driven and ambitious people. I am sure you have thought this at least once or twice at some point over the years.
We think that the more we work - the more we achieve and while this is true in a specific context, we must never forget that what enables us to work and pursue our dreams in the first place is when we are rested. When our bodies and minds are in good shape and in a peaceful place.

I do not believe that sleep and rest are the same thing because if we are to be honest then we will all have experienced going to sleep and waking up the next morning still feeling tired, drained and burnout and sometimes even MORE. I believe that rest is only complete when you have recovered strength, peace, focus or whatever specific virtue it is that depleted while you worked.
I have also gained a firm understanding that rest is something that you have to fight for because the world in general does not care if you rest or not unfortunately. The world will continue to withdraw from you time and time again and unless you proactively and intentionally draw your boundaries and declare an unapologetic time of rest - you may NEVER get it.
The following are the top 3 benefits of rest as a CEO that I have found over the years:
Reduces Anxiety & Stress
Replenishes Body & Immune System
Increases Focus, Creativity & Inspiration
All of the above make for a better leader & a better working environment for your employees and anyone who comes into contact with you while you are in drive mode. I hope that you make a promise to yourself that in 2022 you will take time out to rest and be good to yourself. Rest enables you to give the best of yourself to the world and not what is left.
You need and deserve rest!
