3 Common Business Fears

If you have any experience at all in dealing with young children then you may be familiar with the following scenario that usually takes place around bedtime... Sudden requests for snacks, toys, drinks, songs, hugs, food & a million storybooks come up. Complaints of discomfort, itchiness, over/under heating, pain and aches (none of which existed 1 second before bedtime lol) appear.
The first few times that this happened you perhaps innocently attended to each need and request before you one day realised that all of the above were simply a cover-up for one simple fact: the child was afraid of the dark & did not want to go to bed or sleep alone. Simple. All the above fabrications and requests were simply a cover up for what was really going on beneath the surface & once the issue of fear was addressed - the endless bed time distractions stopped. Familiar?
Similarly, a myth I used to believe with all my heart before fully venturing into the business world was that the major reasons many people fail to start their businesses was due to a lack of finances, a lack of time, their family set-up, their age, location and so forth. Until I became a Business Coach and began dealing with people on a personal 1-2-1 level.
This is when I realised that though the reasons above can be valid in certain contexts there was an even bigger reason that was hidden between all the many excuses people would give for why they had not stepped into the business world and began actualising their financial dreams - and it was the same four letter word that has appeared at many of our children's bedtimes in the past: FEAR.
Fear: "...an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger..." A factor that has successfully stopped far too many from all walks of life from stepping into financial freedom. Allow me to explain the three most common fears I have encountered and successfully helped people overcome in my years of Business coaching and mentoring:
#1: Fear of FAILURE
This is the most common of the types of fears that exists. For many the possibility that they could fail along the way cripples them from taking a step towards achieving the dreams they have carried for years on the inside of them. A lot of people prefer things that look picture perfect for the outside world and cannot bear the thought of having their mistakes witnessed and analysed by the masses. For them, how things look on the outside is more important than how things could one day be if they moved out in courage.
However, there is no one who has ever mastered a thing that did not fail along the way towards that thing. Nobody. Not on Earth anyway. Also if you look at the other areas of your personal life e.g parenting, marriage, career, friendships etc... there is failure of some sort that occurs from time to time (nobody is perfect) and dare I say daily in some areas but you still determine within yourself to overcome, learn from your mistakes and keep going - so why is a business any different? I have learnt through my own personal mistakes to adopt this simple but powerful outlook: all failure leaves you one step closer (than you were before) towards getting it right and the sooner you start the sooner you'll get there.
This is where the benefit of a Business Coach comes in. It is my job to ensure that you learn from my mistakes as a means of minimising your own along the journey of running your own healthcare business. I cannot promise that you won't make mistakes but with me by your side I can promise that you will learn from them and become a better business person through them.
#2: Fear of CHANGE
This next fear also scores very high among the common business fears that exist. Truth is we all have some sort of routine and set structure that we find comfort in when it comes to our lifestyle and day to day schedule. The majority of us are wired that way. We know what & who fits where, what to expect, often at what time and hopefully more often than not everything seems to go to plan.
On the flip side when running your own business a lot of things initially have to be introduced, adjusted or even be done away with altogether and in no certain ways - this reality can throw a lot of people off. Nobody likes being caught off guard or potentially have to deal with a different routine every single day with multiple uncontrollable variables at times but this is where I am compelled to remind you: there is nothing & nobody that you currently have as a part of your day to day life that did not have to be introduced into it with a determination to make it work. The very same applies towards that business you could start. Whatever you tell your mind is what will be your reality. See all change as good change even if it is uncomfortable for a season because it is taking you one step closer to a dream that belongs to you.
#3: Fear of PEOPLE
"...What will people say!?"
This age old but silent question has been another major hinderance to businesses getting launched over the decades and beyond. Whether it is fear of judgement, mockery or even a lack of support from your nearest and dearest I feel I must remind you that none of the above are a good enough reason for you not to go after the life that you have always dreamed. This is about you.
Sadly, not enough people live for themselves or have truly mastered what it means to take care of self first therefore, a statement, a look or even complete silence from someone else can stop then in their tracks indefinetly. In business you must be TOUGH & DETERMINED. When you want them to stay silent, people will TALK & when you need them to speak, people will stay SILENT.
It's human nature but it cannot be enough to cause you to lose your focus. No.
You must remember that it's a bigger let down to yourself for you to fail to take a leap of faith than it is for you to make a mistake after venturing out. This is for YOU! What legacy do you want to leave behind? What do you want your children's children to know and be told about you? Once again... this is about YOU.
I hope you have been helped. It will be my pleasure to walk you step by step on the journey of starting your own UK based supported living and or domiciliary care business. I have done it over 40 times for and with previous clients & successfully each time. You can book a consultation here.
Until next time...
